PRIDE FESTIVAL WORKSHOP

Brisbane Pride Festival is proud to announce two new workshops open to the community. Both are about developing skills and seizing opportunities within the local community to manage a successful GLBTI event.

The first workshop is called Working With The Media, and is all about using the local media to promote your group or event as effectively as possible. It will cover how to get the most from the local gay and straight media, how to write a media release and touch on using social media. Working With The Media is a free event held at the Healthy Communities office in Teneriffe on February 22 and runs from 7PM — 9PM.

The second workshop is entitled Running Your GLBTI Event and covers all you need to know on how to get an event up and running.  Covering topics like approaching venues, creating an effective budget and using press and social media to promote. Running Your GLBTI Event is a free workshop held at the Healthy Communities office in Teneriffe on February 29 and runs from 7PM — 9PM.

Places are limited for both workshops. To register your place at either event or find out more information please send an email to hazy@stfumedia.com.au and mention which workshop you are interested in.

SHOP TILL YOU DROP

Brisbane Pride Festival Assoc. Is proud to announce our launch of a new and exciting event that will prove to be an exciting all inclusive day for everyone who is part of our community, their friends, family and supporters.

On December 3rd, 2011. Brisbane Pride Festival Assoc is teaming up with over twenty shops in the valley area to create the first ever Brisbane Pride Festival “Shop Till You Drop”
On this day these shops will donate either $5 or 5% of each sale to raise funds, helping Brisbane Pride Festival to fight the battle to increase mental wellness within the community.

The day will start at The Wickham Hotel with a free sausage sizzle breakfast and charity auction to buy a hot guy or girl to carry your shopping bags. Proceeds from the boys auction are split between Brisbane Pride and Bootco/Bears and proceeds from the Girlz auction are split between Brisbane Pride and LHAG, Lesbian Health Action Group, a much needed group that has no funding at all and needs help to assist the girlz in our community.

Shopping will start at 11 and there will be entertainment throughout the day on the Valley streets through personalities and roaming performers.

This is a day where everyone who has Christmas shopping to do should come out in force, and dressed in rainbow Christmas theme. With shops covering an area from Brunswick to James streets and including Wickham, Anne and the Homemaker centre there is something for everyone and its time to get out in the daylight and show the strength and numbers of our community.

Participating stores include Vein Wear Shoes, Valley Ink, Tiger Rag, Combined, Fabrik Hair, Lifeline Clothing Shops, Puritan, Downes Shoes, Mod Cons Design, Katmandu, Blond Venus, Dragonberry, Always Habit, Barcode, Incub8r, Heide Go Seek, Tarmac 1, Fallow, Star Shots, Urban Treats, Howards Storage World, Puritan and Videopro

With the valued support of the fabulous Valley precinct retailers, Scarlet, Citylickers, Bootco, BrisBears, LHAG, The Wickham and of course Brisbane Pride Festival Sunday December 3rd is about to set a new standard in GLBTIQ fundraising events.
Please spread the word, use your networks and most importantly come along and fun, fun FUN!

FIND OUR FLAG!

Brisbane Pride Festival needs your help. Our communities Giant Pride Flag has been misplaced.

After leading this year’s Pride Rally in June to Carnivale, the flag was placed behind the stage and from there has been misplaced. If anyone can help us with the whereabouts of this flag we would appreciate your information. Please email coordinatorofpride@gmail.com if you remember anything about the whereabouts of the flag.

This flag is of major importance to the community, being the largest rainbow flag in Australia. When the Rainbow Flag turned 25 in 2003, the originator Gilbert Baker recreated a rainbow flag in the original 8 colours for Key West Pride Celebrations. This flag was 1.5 miles long and after the parade was cut into 150 pieces and sent to cities around the world.  Brisbane Pride Festival is very proud to be the only organisation in Australia to receive a piece of this flag.

Please help us to find this important part of Brisbane’s Pride History.

UPDATE: THE FLAG HAS BEEN FOUND.

Pride Festival Moves To September

Brisbane Pride Festival is excited to announce a massive change for Pride Festival 2012.  A few months ago Pride released a survey to the public and its members asking some key questions, and from the results the committee has voted to move the festival from June to September but still retaining some events in June.

Deeje Hancock, the elected President said that the most significant responses from the survey was around the date of the rally, march and fair day. "Following the community voice, the Brisbane Pride Festival committee is proud to announce that the main part of the festival will move to September. The festival being held in warmer months will facilitate a better turn out of people and make these much loved events more comfortable for the community to attend.

"This move will not detract from the traditional Pride Month of June, with the Queens Ball remaining in its traditional date and the proud introduction of a Stonewall memorial and GLBTQI rights event also to be held in June which will feature a march.

"The amazing job done by the community, its supporters and the caretaker committee in producing the festival in 2011, highlighted two main points. One, just what we can achieve together to show a unity of our greater community and two, where there are areas of improvement that the community needs to have addressed.

"The committee looks forward to moving into an exciting and new approach for the festival to ensure its growth and survival for the future, reflecting and incorporating as many wishes and desires of the community as a whole."

Brisbane Pride Festival is holding a community preliminary planning event to discuss what the move means for the festival, and to help the community kick off their plans for next years festival. The event will be held at Sportsman's Hotel on September 19 and starts at 7:00pm. Pride members, community groups and the general public are welcome.

Brisbane Pride Back In Black

The Brisbane Pride Festival Committee is proud to announce that the 2011 Brisbane Pride festival was a well attended, community enhancing, financial success.

It is with enormous gratitude that we wish to thank everyone who held events, volunteered and attended Brisbane Pride Festival events in 2011.

A special mention should also go to Qnews who ran a successful Carnivale in place of Fair Day. As a result Qnews donated thousands of dollars to Brisbane Pride Festival and Youth Suicide charities. Carnivale, Pride Rally, Pride March and the hugely successful Queens Ball were all different from years past with new venues, new formats and a renewed sense of pride in our community and most importantly helped get some money back in the bank.

Aschleigh Perring, the newly appointed Treasurer of Brisbane Pride Festival is happy to announce the festival is no longer ‘in the red’. "At the commencement of 2009-2010, Brisbane Pride Festival Incorporated posted a loss of $15,000 which almost crippled the festival.  The dedication of the care taker committee and a successful 2011 festival, allowed the newly elected committee to finalise ALL debts and close with a balance just over $10,000."

Festival President Deeje Hanckock says he's very pleased with the state of the balance sheet. "It's been a great result, but of course the hard work of raising funds and expanding the festival continues, in order to see the return of a Pride Festival managed Fair Day in 2012. We know that Perry Park is a great venue for Fair Day and we plan to follow on from this year's success and keep the event at the same venue next year.”

BRISBANE PRIDE FESTIVAL AGM 2011-2012

The Brisbane Pride Festival 2011 AGM went incredibly well last night, with a good turn of out members supporting the festival. Battling low membership numbers and a lack of community awareness from previous years, this AGM saw 28 members in attendance and 14 proxy votes from members who could not attend.

Things ran smoothly through the AGM with all motions being successfully voted in. Even the election of the new committee was a quick process with some nominee's for contested positions dropping out at the last minute.

Brisbane Pride Festival is very proud to announce its 2011-2012 formally elected committee.
